Bangladesh experienced a significant influx of foreign remittances during the first 18 days of July. According to updated data released by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday, July 19, the country received 1.79 billion USD in expatriate income. Calculated at an exchange rate of 123 taka per dollar, this total is equivalent to 22,112 crore 69 lakh 40 thousand taka.
The central bank's report provided a detailed breakdown of the remittance sources by banking sector. Private commercial banks handled the largest share, bringing in 1.26 billion 16 lakh 50 thousand USD. State-owned banks processed 28 crore 78 lakh 60 thousand USD, while specialized banks accounted for 24 crore 52 lakh 50 thousand USD. Additionally, foreign bank branches operating in the country recorded an inflow of 30 lakh 30 thousand USD.
Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC emerged as the top-performing institution, leading the list of banks with the highest remittance receipts during this period. The bank processed 26 crore 65 lakh 80 thousand USD in foreign remittances. Bangladesh Krishi Bank followed in second place with 24 crore 52 lakh 50 thousand USD. BRAC Bank ranked third, facilitating 18 crore 40 lakh USD, while Agrani Bank recorded an inflow of 14 crore 69 lakh 40 thousand USD.
