A cleaner named Milon Sheikh, 38, has died while performing his duties in the Nolgola area under Ward 30 of Old Dhaka. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when he went missing while cleaning a drain.
According to the Kotwali police, Milon and a team of cleaners had been working in the area since Thursday morning. At approximately 1:00 PM, Milon descended into a manhole. About an hour later, the rope he was using reportedly snapped, causing him to fall into the drain. His colleagues attempted to locate him immediately but were unsuccessful.
Following the disappearance, a team of divers from the Fire Service and Civil Defence was deployed to conduct a search operation. They successfully recovered Milon’s body from the same area around 2:30 PM on Friday, following roughly 25 hours of efforts.
Sub-inspector Enamul Haque of Kotwali Police Station confirmed that after the body was recovered by the Fire Service, it was sent to the Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Milon was the son of Jahirul Sheikh from Hasargaon village in Srinagar upazila, Munshiganj, and resided with his family in the New Ali Bahar area of Shyampur in the capital.
